Other Characters: NA
Name: Maid Marian
From: Robin Hood (1973 Disney animated film)
Appearance: http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Maid_Marian
Physical Description:
(Added for people unfamiliar with her canon, since the wiki entry is rather... sparse)
Height: 3’7" (Assumed height) Height increased to an even 4 foot height for Ink City.
Eyes: Brown
Hair/Fur: Orange/White
Marian is a beautiful young vixen. She is mostly orange with cream-colored fur on her muzzle and underside, and a lighter orange around her large brown eyes. Her tail is fluffy and well-kept. Normally she is usually dressed in soft pinks and purples, and her ears are usually hidden by a double-horned headdress and pink veil.
Age: Young adult-ish... Old enough to be married and to be considering having children at least.
Gender: Female
Personality: Marian is well known throughout England for her kind and gentle nature. *Being born into gentry, she was taught from a young age to be proper and courteous, and always tries to maintain her manners. A very sweet, caring and self-sacrificing person, Marian is always eager and willing to help the less fortunate and more than willing to try and help others when she is in the position to do so.
Being sent away for years did little to curb her feelings for Robin, *but it did do her a disservice and set her into a somewhat overly formal mindset when dealing with her peers. Klucky does the best she can to help her shake off that training, but when frightened or in a highly public setting she tends to revert back to overly formal speech and manners.
*Thanks in part to Klucky's influence, while Marian is a well mannered lady, she's not stiff. She enjoys dancing, playing badminton, a good laugh and having fun, you could even say she has a bit of a mischievous streak. That mischievous streak comes out to play every once in awhile, giving Skippy a kiss on the cheek, teasing Robin about the timing of his marriage proposal and hitting Trigger with a pie after he tries to shoot Robin with a crossbow.
Outgoing and sociable, Marian is always excited to meet new people and she loves to be surrounded by good company. She is quite fond of children, being more comfortable around them than adults more often than not. *They don't expect her to be a perfect lady, and she is more than willing to spend time with them, often joining them in their games.
*One day, she would like to have a number of children of her own with Robin. Though in the meantime, she is quite content to have Skippy and the other children around. Quite often entertaining them and watching them for the other adults.
Normally an optimistic and cheerful woman, she tries to see the positive side of most things and follows her heart, trying to do what she feels is right, even if it may lead her into trouble. Deeply in love with Robin Hood, Marian professes her love for him and pleaded for his life when Prince John ordered him to be executed, regardless of the danger she was placing herself in by disagreeing with him.
*She is very grateful to the royal family for adopting her and giving her a good life after the deaths of her parents. Therefore, she adores King Richard as family, and finds it hard to speak against Prince John, even when she knows he is doing a poor job in leading and lacks both sympathy and empathy. She would very much like to slap Hiss on occasion, but doing so would be very impolite and unladylike and she somehow manages to suppress that urge.
* In a world where all animals are people, the thought of anyone eating meat (Or flesh, as she refers to it.) Is a highly disturbing and disgusting thought to her.
Notes and assumptions/Head canon*I have made a couple of assumptions as to her history before the movie, and in general to help fill in her motivations, due to lack of cannon background.
Backstory (also includes general canon overview): *Speculation on her birth, and parents. She was born to a noble family in King Richard's court, and when they died, Richard adopted her as his niece. (Since I have no other idea as to how a lion could be related to a fox....)
The niece of King Richard, Maid Marian, grew up together with Robin Hood and they were very much in love. However she had to leave for several years, spending much time in London for unspecified reasons.
*Speculated reasons for her absence: Prince John sent her off to a 'finishing school' for manners to get her out of the way when King Richard went off to join the crusades. Why have a witness to his attempt to steal the throne? Sending her and her Lady in waiting away removes one more thing standing in his way to power.
The years go by and Marian is still very much in love with Robin. She did however worry that because of her long separation from him, that he had moved on and forgotten about her.
*More speculation here: She spent many nights awake well past dark, wondering if she would return home, only to find him in the arms of another. Klucky spends many a night up with her, trying to console the homesick girl as the years pass. Returning to Nottingham was a somewhat mixed blessing for Marian. She wanted to see Robin so badly, but with him being branded an outlaw it seemed not to be.
She had only been back in Nottingham for a short while, before Prince John used the promise of her kiss to lure Robin Hood into an archery contest. During the tournament she recognizes him instantly, and when he is revealed and to be executed, she pleads for his life.
Robin manages to escape with some help from his friends, and asks her to marry him during the ensuing chaos. She accepts, but chides him playfully about choosing a more romantic setting.
After a rather romantic walk with Robin they find their way to his camp, and join a small party with the townsfolk in celebration of their escape.
King Richard returns and pardons Robin Hood.
Robin and Marian get married and leave together for parts unknown.
End canon.
Moral Standing: Good.
Dreams: Canon: She wants to marry Robin and have a number of children. Head Canon: She also wishes to become more than a 'useless' damsel in distress and learn to defend and look after herself.
Fears: Canon: That Robin Hood has forgotten her during her long absence. Head Canon: She fears being alone and forgotten about as well as being unable to protect herself.
Extra: Most of the sections overlap a bit. Let me know if more separation is required.
Character Location: She isn't going to be bringing a location, since she would have no idea how to either care for a castle or survive in a duplicate of the grove in Sherwood forest.
Writing Sample:
It was a clear, quiet night and Marian sighed as she fidgeted while twisting the hem of her dress in an attempt to expend some of her nervous energy.
Shaking her head she began to pace the floor and tried to find something else to think about, but it was no use. Friar Tuck was to be hung at dawn as a traitor to the crown and there was nothing she could do to help.
Robin and Little John had set out on a rescue mission. While here she sat, hiding in Sherwood forest when almost everyone was either in the prison or gone out on the rescue. She had wanted to go as well, but what could she really do? Run away? Perhaps she could throw another pie? She let out a small huff of frustration and then sighed once more.
She felt so useless, it was still hours until dawn and even longer before she would know if everyone was alright. Glancing over to where Kluckly was sound asleep, Marian found herself a little envious that she could sleep at a time like this, but there was no point in waking her. At least one of them should be able to rest.
Sleep would not find Marian tonight, for how could she sleep while the one she loved was risking his life? Part of her wished the dawn would come quickly, while the other hoped it never would.
Rather than start pacing again, Marian wandered out into the clear crisp night air and whispered quietly to the breeze “Oh Robin. Please do be careful and come back to me....”
After wandering the clearing for over an hour, Marian found a tree to lean against and sat on the ground before taking a deep breath and watching the sky through it's branches in silence. Never had the coming of the dawn seemed so far away, or so frightening.
